Coming up with really cool Halloween costume ideas isn't easy. Some people writing about Halloween costumes rattle off specific costume suggestions. This is flawed. If I don't know you, how can I suggest costumes which are tailored to your personality and reflect who you really are? I obviously can't. Which is why articles such as this one are almost always a total waste of the readers time.

This article will nonetheless help you find a good costume. It will dispense with the usual method of recommending specific ideas, and instead try and get the readers juices flowing, triggering associations that may help them think of costumes.

Yokely dokely then. Here's the list, and I hope at least one item on it makes you stop suddenly with a burst of inspiration, feeling certain you have found the costume that is right for you.

Think of your favorite color. Is there a costume you could create from it?

What about a color you hate? Is there some villainous costume that utilizes it?

Think of the actress or actor who's your most favorite. Now recall all the movies they've made. One of the characters they brought to life would probably make an interesting costume.

Villains make great costumes. Think of some of the bad guys from movies, and better yet, human history. Hitler is one costume you may want to avoid though, as it can really offend some people. I've seen Mussolini costumes that didn't anger any one

Your favorite pro athlete always makes an excellent Halloween costume. Unless he's a diver. No marble bags please.

Anything prehistoric or Jurassic is a can't miss if you happen to be fit and beautiful. People who weren't fortunate enough to have been born beautiful, or are too lazy to stay fit, always love seeing some nubile D-cupped vixen wearing 14 square inches of fabric. And women love ogling Mr. 5% body fat's abs all night.

Think of a nefarious criminal. Go as him or her.

Literary characters make great costumes. What are your favorite books, and characters in them? Captain Ahab, Long John Silver, etc.

Fables, fairy tales, and Disney movies are another great source of costume ideas.

Men can always go as Presidents. No one who doesn't want to be in trouble with Homeland Security will rip on a Lincoln or George Washington costume. But truthfully, the unscrupulous Presidents can be the funnest. Nixon and Clinton provide endless sources of jokes. And if can't get laid going as Bill Clinton, castrate yourself.

Think of something disgusting. A used tampon. A piece of shit. Go as that.

Literal interpretation of certain words can provide unique costumes. A lawsuit is one such costume.

Go as your favorite food. Just be sure you aren't obese, or you'll get mocked viscously.

Costumes can be made from corporate logos. The fruit of the loom dudes are a great costume, for example.

Musicians. Or bands. Crazy whacked out Brittany Spears, Devo, Vanilla Ice, etc.

Some people like to get really crazy and change their appearance radically. They shave their eyebrows. Or dye themselves green with magic markers and go as the jolly green giant.

I hope this brainstorm list was useful and that you were able to think of some really cool Halloween costume ideas.
