–A fun 'n faith devo 'n more for today….."You want me to WEIGH IN??"…. "Not gettin' on the scales this mornin', Lord…..do you know what I ATE on Monday??"…uh, well, of course, You do….humble grin!
OK, we both know the Lord is not talking about body weight…..thank goodness! He's talking about the very essence of who we are, how we think, act and feel……ouch….for sure, I'm not gettin' on THAT scale!
But wait a minute, before you decline in fear and trembling, feeling HEAVY with a load of guilt or whatever weighs you down today, get off that scale and think again……
HE'S forgiven you; HE'S freed you from a heavy load of sin – you are precious and well-pleasing in HIS sight…whatever others think, say or DON'T say! (Ever get hurt by SILENCE? Ouch!!) Sure, you can let the scale go up with a heavy load of sadness, hurt, self-imposed guilt and more. OR you can let the scale go DOWN, WAAAAY down, with low self-esteem, low self-worth, and a down-in-the-dumps soul.
It's true – people, sometimes very dysfunctional and unkind people, weigh you in the balance, and in their book, you're found wanting, over and over again (and you know whose name(s) immediately comes up in your own mental address book!!). People hurt; stuff HURTS! Well, get OFF that scale! Acknowledge the hurt, turn it ALL over to God and move on. Realize that it is ultimately Satan, not people, who's weighted you down – and HE doesn't COUNT!!
And what else to do? Get on GOD'S scales who knows you, deep within the recesses of your heart. He knows your heart for Him, your desire to serve Him, your inner motivations to do right – and He approves. He is PROUD of ou! You can GET on that scale today, without fear, knowing that with all your faults, failures and sins confessed to Him, you are right in HIS sight. HIS love and approval well balances the scales!
You are precious GOLD in the Father's eyes (now what does THAT weigh!!). Don't let the world put you down! They're trying to weigh and evaluate, even dismiss or disdain, your good words, deeds, thoughts and opinions, all the time. How do you handle THAT? Well, when the scale tips HIGH and HEAVY with the weight of false guilt and low self-esteem, or LOW and LOATHFUL in Satan's FALSE image-approval rating, shove the enemy off the scale. HE'S tipping it, both ways, and remember, he's a liar from the beginning – it is NOT so in your Lord's eyes!
Read the second verse below and don't be afraid to say, "Weigh me in the balance, Lord!" HE has proven your heart and knows who you really are. You are His child, no matter WHO "in" this world or "over" this world (remember the principalities in the air?) tips the scales UP or DOWN – your worth is incredibly much in HIS eyes – and that's what counts.
OK, now be brave, get on that BODY weight scale, read the awful number, and join me on a diet…….but HEART weight? That's another matter – and GOD tips the scale in an upward direction–and that's good! When you are a child of God, covered with His blood and righteousness, you are worth your weight in gold…..now remember THAT and NOT how someone put you down……that doesn't count an ounce in God's eyes! You are precious in His sight – believe it, go eat a SMALL piece of chocolate, and have a great day!!!
