The many customs we have today in terms of Halloween has its origins in the religious practices of the Romans and the Druids, therefore, dates back several centuries. The Romans worshiped discrete gods and on October 31, a extra celebration was held to honor Pomona, the goddess of fruit trees. Later Druids, an ancient Celtic order of priests in Britain, made this feast an even more whole celebration by also honor Samhain, lord of the dead. This was regularly done 1 November and it was therefore decided to honor both practical Pomona and Samhain 31 October and 1 November.

The Druids believed that on the evening before November (October 31) Samhain called together wicked souls or spirits who were condemned to live in the bodies of animals during the year that had just expired. Because they were afraid of these spirits, they chose October 31 as a day of sacrifice to their gods, hoping they would protect them. They literally notion that this day they were surrounded by strange spirits, ghosts, witches, fairies and elves, who came out to harm them. In addition, they also believed that cats were sacred animals, as they believed that they report population who have lived before, and as punishment for evil deeds were reincarnated as a cat. All this explains why witches, ghosts and cats are a part of Halloween today.

The convention of trick-or-treating and the use of "jack-o-lanterns" comes from Ireland. Hundreds of years ago, Irish farmers went from house to house, begging for food on profit of their old gods to be used at the settlement Halloween celebration. They would promise good luck to those who were food, and made threats against those who refused to give up. The only population said, "You treat me or I will trick you!" "

The apparently unobjectionable lighted pumpkin face "jack-o'-lantern" literally is an old Irish fastener of a damned soul. A man named Jack would not be able to enter the kingdom of heaven because of his meanness, and can not enter hell because he had played practical jokes on the devil. As a result, he was doomed to stray the earth with his light to the Day of Judgment (for example, at the end of the world). The Irish were so afraid that they would receive an same situation, that they began to hollow out pumpkins and place lighted candles inside to scare away evil spirits from their homes.
