First, you get the curling iron nice and hot-- roll it back and sizzle with Aqua Net!
(Been there, done that, honey.)

I snuck off to "Rock of Ages" last week and enjoyed every minute--each of the quirky actors featured in this rock anthem-filled ensemble flick has had his/her share of bad press in real life. In turn, what could have been a vapid singalong attempt at storytelling (a la Christina Aguillera's flattish "Burlesque") actually has a lot of heart. Tom Cruise is slitheringly vulnerable as the aging rocker, Malin Ackerman is the sexy smart girl who gets it and Alec Baldwin is pitch-perfect as a dude my dad would have jammed with in the 70's. Even Russell Brand (who I've been mad at for messing with Katy Perry's head) came off as kinda sweet by the end of this movie.

And Julianne Hough? That li'l Oklahoma gal bussing it to the big city had me at "Hey ya'all".

It's all about the hair (and the aim).
Halloween is going to rock for redheads this year!

Another small town girl--Merida of "Brave"--is looking for a different kind of excitement. All this carrot-topped wild child/princess wants to do is ride her horse and shoot some arrows at the treetops. This kids' movie is slim on plot, fantastic on animation and fun enough to keep the tykes entertained and out of the heat wave melting the pavement outside.  Both Lightening and Thunder were able to sit through it with only a minimal amount of M&M's to keep them company. Thunder was a little scared by the bear scenes, I cried about three times (what else is new, don't take me to "Happy Feet", whatever you do!) Some fun fantasy, but at the end of the day I hope Merida gets some other cohorts besides her mommy...

Maybe join a rockband for Brave II??
