Each Halloween, tens of thousands* of Wes Anderson–movie costumes are recycled because of their simplicity, their sophistication, and their ready availability after the previous year's Tenenbaums retread. This year, though, Wes Anderson is auctioning off a costume from his latest ensemble comedy, Moonrise Kingdom, guaranteeing that at least one Wes Anderson devotee will have an authentic holiday outfit from the famously fastidious filmmaker come October. There is one caveat, however . . .
You must be of similar size and build as actor Jared Gilman, who plays a 12-year-old member of the Khaki Scouts of North America in the film, if you actually want to wear it. Brought to our attention by Movieline, his scout uniform was designed by costume designer Kasia Walicka Maimone and her department, who created "every single element of the uniform, including activity buttons and hand-sewn insignia patches" after consulting with Anderson. According to the listing on Charity Buzz, the costume comes with "green scout shorts with yellow piping; green scout shirt with patches, button, and yellow piping, and a yellow neckerchief." The auction ends on June 13, with the lot's value estimated at $500 . . . which is approximately $500 more than what you spent on your repurposed headband/wristband set and sunglasses last year. At least the proceeds go to charity!
