Most Fridays, I will share with you a post from another blog that I find particularly moving, interesting, or funny. They will be posts that fit the DKL mold... ones I think people who read this blog would enjoy. Another blogger I follow started something similar. I also wanted to do this because someone paid it forward to me, giving me tons of new followers. So this is the least I can do... I can't stop smiling. Yesterday I received two pieces of good news from two great people. And it just made my day. It continues to make my day today. Please check out both of these posts by two of my favorite people in the blogosphere and bloggers in the peoplesphere. I truly consider both of them my friends, even though I've only met either of them on the internet. So I want to share their joy, and my joy for them, with you.
First up is Katy from I Want a Dumpster Baby. She needs no introduction from me. But in case you've been living under a dumpster for the past year, she's an amazing person, writer, and blogger who chronicles her life as a recovering alcoholic and her journey toward motherhood. Her stories serve as messages of joy, hope, and honesty. She's inspiring and encouraging. Oh, and she's riotously funny. Hers is the great American story of redemption. And yesterday she revealed some exciting, amazing news. Usually I'd provide a blurb from the post I'm introducing, but I don't want to steal this momma's thunder. I dream that one day My Director and I will fly to Chicago and attend a Cubs with Katy and her DH. (Dumpster Husband.) It's a goal more than a dream. (It's ok, Katy, we'll get a hotel room. I don't want to impose.)
Next up is James from EduDad. If his name sounds familiar, it's because he's been featured here several times before. Most recently in my Tribute to Dads for Father's Day. And the theme song he wrote for DKL now lives on this site right over there. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
James has a daughter named Imogen. She's Peanut's age. So her stories, her journey, always hit close to home for me. Imogen was born with an eye condition that pretty much made her legally blind, with very little hope to see normally. Well, after surgery last year and several follow-up visits, her doctor has proclaimed that Imogen can now see - with glasses - like any other kid. It warms my heart writing and reading that.
A few months ago, James wrote about his daughter's struggle with her glasses: Whenever she would dress up in her princess clothes, she would take her glasses off. Begrudgingly, after several prompts (threats) she would put her glasses back on.
On one such occasion my Mom... overheard this conversation:
"Sweetie, please put your glasses on.
But Daddy, I'm playing princess.
You know you have to wear them. They're good for your eyes.
But… But… Princesses don't wear glasses."
