October 6 – How would you carve your jack-o-lantern this year? Funny, scary, not at all?
We have not decorated at all this year so far for Halloween and it is rather a sad thing as it is one of our favorite holidays. We normally carve pumpkins but I think this year we might paint them. It really depends on what inspires the children. I need to get on it soon though.
Halloween is said to be based on old druid traditions then they veil between world was believed to be thinnest and the spirits would be able to walk the world of the living. They dressed up in hopes the spirits would not find them. Candles burned in windows to warn spirits off. Carving pumpkins did not become a tradition till much later and it didn’t even start with pumpkins but turnips and potatoes with scary faces to scare off spirits.
These days most of us are not out to scare off spirits but rather lift them up, have a bit of fun. Though some are out to get scared on this holiday. For our family is mostly about fun, celebrating the season, and the magic of childhood.
