Scary Kid's Halloween Costumes | Girl to Mom…trying to become a ...

Scary Kids costume

I don’t want my child dressed as the Grim Reaper, thanks.

I love Halloween and I adore costumes, but have you noticed that kid’s costumes are getting both: A: more grown up and tarty for girls (gross!) and more scary and creepy for boys than ever?

WARNING: If you are majorly creeped out by scary photos, you may want to skip this post, because these images are pretty freaky. Like this one:

scary kids costume

A Hazmat suit Zombie?

I’m guessing this is a Hazmat suit zombie. With no skin on his bloody face and arm. Ewww.

scary kids costume

Make it stop.

And this one is because clowns aren’t creepy enough? And kids need more nightmares?

scary kid mummy costume

Mummy zombie.

Now, a traditional mummy costume I can take. Cut up a white sheet, wrap it around your kid, boom, cheap homemade costume. But this Mummy Zombie kid? No. How can this not be encouraging aggressiveness?

jason kids costume

Jason kid costume.

This one is “Blood Sport,” which is a grisly name.

Of course it makes me and everyone else think of Jason from the Halloween movies wearing the scary hockey mask and murdering teenagers at Camp Crystal Lake.

Because who doesn’t want their precious angel dressed like a mindless maniacal murderer with blood seeping out of their eyes?

Yuck.

And if you think this is bad, another warning: the next page after the continuing click is where I’m putting the most offensive ones.

I just want to be sure you’re okay.

Here goes…

These boys are cute, but I don’t like this at all. I think it encourages violence to seem cool. Am I being a prude, here? I’m sure they’re very nice boys.

I’ve noticed the trend that zombie make-up is popular even with little kids when there is a face painter at parties- and most of the parents don’t seem to mind. I’m glad (for now anyway) that my kid picks superheros and animals. Brace yourself:

scary kids costumes

Mad scientist.

This is some sort of sick mad scientist costume.

The red bloody brain outside the skull is particularly gross.

Personally, I don’t like any kid’s costumes with blood on them.

Kids shouldn’t be thinking about blood outside of skinning their knees when they play.

And WTH is up with the bloody handprint?

Are we supposed to tell our child that was one of this guy’s victims?

I’m not letting my kid look at these pictures at all, but he sees scary costumes when we’re out trick or treating.

Zombies have gone mainstream. I guess you pop a zombie face on anything these days and you’re good to go. They’re gonna jump the shark soon and then what next? I shudder to think…

kids scary zombir costume

Yeccch.

Oh good, SKINNED ALIVE ZOMBIES!

Well, I’m glad I asked!

I would like to know who the sicko is who came up with this costume design.

I mean, I try to tell myself it’s all in fun, that some parents are really into the scary stuff and that they teach their kids it’s all pretend, but still.

STILL.

I don’t want to see any child’s bloody exposed ribcage!

Not even in pretend!

Just me?

cute bat bay costume

Awww.

I think we need a palate cleaner.

A cute baby bat will do nicely, thanks.

PHEW!

Whatever happened to CUTE scary?

FUNNY scary?

CLEVER scary?

Not just gross, ya know?

I have a couple more pictures left, I hope I can take it.

zombie kid costume

Zombie skateboard kid.

This one is not quite as bad, at least there’s no blood. I must be desperate.

very scary kids costume

Murdering nurse…kid?

This may be the most offensive one.

A murdering maniac nurse costume?

For KIDS?

To what, make them terrified of hospitals, nurses and medical care that can save their life?

And the nurse is holding a BLOODY SEVERED HAND?

And a bloody SAW?

Not to mention the subtle (ha) long bloody hand print streaks down the scrubs from his “victims.”

If someone you know puts their child in this costume, call Child Protective Services, seriously.

I need a shower. Blech!

Points for creativity.

This one get points for creativity, at least…

I’m guessing the head in the jar is a large picture of the kid and they can see through the coat somehow.

If this kid came to my door, I would scream, you?

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t want to encourage my kid to think about his head being severed.

I’m conservative like that, with head severing of children and the putting of heads in jars.

That’s just how I roll, without heads rolling.

scary kid costume

Child corpse bride.

This last one is not as gross as some of the others, but a child should not be a bride, and certainly not a dead bride. This costume is a Child Corpse Bride, so as you can see that even though most of these scary costumes are aimed for boys, girls can get in on the act, too.

I’m sure some girls also choose to wear the more “male” looking scary costumes, as well. I’m not that upset about this topic, because it’s a holiday after all, and costumes are make believe.

But that said, a ghost, a witch or a werewolf seem scary enough to me for kids to don on All Hallow’s Eve, what do you think?

mario child costume

Mario kid.

Bexon wants to go as Mario, the little Italian man with the mustache from the Mario Brother’s video game this year, and suddenly to this Mommy, videogames don’t seem so bad, after all. :-)

Boo.

XOXO-

~ Heidi
