Hello, everyone! My name is K. Piet, and I’m the Marketing Director and one of three owners over at Storm Moon Press. I’m here today to talk a little about one of our imprints. Wild Moon Press is all about heterosexual erotica and erotic romance. Now, why do I make the designation ‘heterosexual’? Well, Storm Moon Press was originally founded as a QUILTBAG press. Our specialty has been in gay, lesbian, bisexual, and various flavors of trans* fiction. Now that we’ve passed our third anniversary at Storm Moon Press, however, we’ve been actively seeking submissions for Wild Moon. It always felt like a natural progression to include het titles in our catalog instead of excluding them. We have no problem with men and women being together; that’s part of bisexual fiction, after all! ;)

The thing about Wild Moon Press is that we aren’t looking to publish the same thing as every romance publisher out there. We aren’t looking for your run-o’-the-mill romance that has been done to death. We’re looking to put out something a little different, be it a different take on the vampire and shifter romance to erotica that embraces alternative lifestyles like BDSM and polyamory. Wild Moon is a place for originality, and we hope authors don’t hesitate to send us stories that might push the envelope.

Here are a few of the anthology and open line calls that we have coming up at Wild Moon. Our anthologies are for short stories between 10,000 and 20,000 words. Open line calls are for submissions over 20,000 words (aka novellas or novels) unless otherwise specified.

Anthology Calls

  • Turning the Tables (submissions close Feb 28th) – This anthology opens with a bang, quite literally. What we’re looking for are sexy stories in which the women don strap-ons. Pegging is one fetish we don’t see a lot of in the het romance/erotica genre, and we’d love to publish more of it. The woman might not have to wear the pants in the relationship, but she’ll certainly take a turn wearing the cock!

  • Toil and Trouble (submissions close May 30th) – While vampires and shifters have been all the rage, we’re looking at the other part of the paranormal spectrum for this anthology, which focuses on witches and warlocks. Witchcraft, sorcery, alchemy, spellcraft, all are welcome skills for your characters to explore. Show us the magical side of romance and seduction.

  • Dicks and Dames (submissions close August 31st) – Who doesn’t love a hard-boiled detective? Whether you set it in a historical context or take a chance on steampunk or futuristic sci-fi, we’d love to see more fiction embracing the mystery of crime-solving in that classic, gritty, detective noir style.

Open Line Calls

  • Love in the Time of Zombies – This is our 2013 Halloween call, and nothing says Halloween like a good scare. We’re looking for love stories set in a zombie apocalypse. Give us sleep-with-the-lights-on scary or laugh-until-you-cry funny, but above all else, we want love, romance, and steamy erotica… with the threat of zombies attacking. (As a holiday specific open call, this call closes August 15th to allow for a release day in October.)

  • Fireside Seduction – There’s something about a crackling fire and the scent of cinnamon and spice that warms the spirit and heralds the holiday season. In this Holiday 2013 line, we’re looking for your best, seasonally evocative stories. Family drama, sibling rivalries, your lover meeting the family for the first time, you name it! Just be sure to keep with the winter or holiday theme as well as include the romantic and erotic content. (As a holiday specific open call, this call closes

  • Geek Chic – At Wild Moon, we just love our geeks. The romance genre is traditionally dominated by burly men and impossibly beautiful women, and we’re looking for stories that take beauty in a different direction. To us, intelligent is definitely sexy, and we want to see more stories that spotlight “geeky” or “nerdy” men and women!

Like what you see above? Just click the header text to look at the submission basics and guidelines, if you’re interested in writing for us! Readers, feel free to browse our anthology and open line calls as well. They’re a great way to see what our press has in the works! We hope everyone will give Wild Moon a try over the coming year. It’s an exciting addition to Storm Moon Press’ QUILTBAG catalog, and we’re hoping we can put out amazing het stories for everyone to enjoy!
