109/180, “Orange You Glad It's Over” | Organized Bites

OrganizedBites.com | "Orange You Glad It's Over"In Scout’s LunchBots Quad lunch box there’s a mandarin orange and some red baby bell pepper rings topping a green oak lettuce leaf. Blossoms cut from watermelon, honeydew, and strawberries are accented with honeydew leaves are nestled in a green oak lettuce leaf. Another lettuce leaf softens a serving of veggies: O. sugar plum tomatoes, black olives, O. sugar snap peas, and yellow baby bell pepper rings. Trader Joe’s (TJ’s) Organic Mini Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers are a crunchy source of protein, and two little TJ’s Yogurt Stars Cookies are included for dessert.

Orange You Glad It’s Over? The attack of heart shaped lunches, that is. Time to drop back and enjoy something that is beautiful in its simplicity. Lots of color and texture, and simple little peanut butter crackers to enjoy with fresh fruit and veg.

It’s so funny to me. If you asked my family, they’d tell you they don’t care for salad. But, if I put down a plate of salad toppings they gladly scarf them down. It’s not the food they don’t like, it’s one component of the dish. Using the current example, it’s salad dressing. I believe most kids can develop a love for whole foods. It’s just a matter of figuring out how to make it appealing. For Scout, sometimes that’s been shaping it in a cute way, like bunny shaped boiled eggs. Or, leading her to accept a tossed salad (hold the dressing) as a messy crudites tray. Often, it’s just persistence on my part, and coming at the situation from every angle I can think of. Do you have a picky eater at your table? What are some of your techniques for developing their palates?
