Half-million bond for jailed Oak Brook robber | WGN-TV

A judge set bail at a half-million dollars for a Detroit man who tried to rob an Oak Brook jewelry store wielding a sledgehammer.

Levert Jones appeared in court Saturday in a wheelchair after sustaining injuries during the robbery when he was shot in the leg.

Jones, armed with a sledghammer, and his two accomplices, who are still-at-large, walked into C.D. Peacock at the Oak Brook shopping center on June 22. They attempted to smash open a box containing $3 million dollars in Rolexes.

A security guard shot Jones in the leg while the others escaped. Jones is suspected to be a member of ring of smash-and-grab robbers who have attempted similar robberies in North Carolina and Missouri.

If Jones posts bail, he will have to remain in Illinois and wear a GPS monitor.
