Living in Gainesville, Fla., I realize that Tim Tebow is pretty iconic around these parts. He starred for the Florida Gators, winning two National Championships. He hails from Jacksonville, Fla., which is only about two hours away from here. Well, he's about to be called back home. Why you may ask? To save the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Blaine Gabbert, Jacksonville's first-round pick several years ago, has yet to live up the hype. Chad Henne, formerly of the Miami Dolphins, is nothing more than a stopgap solution. I honestly don't understand why you wouldn't look at it. Hometown hype can do some good. Granted, a lot of the hope is coming from what Tebow did in Denver with the one year he was given a shot.
There is a small movement led by a group of fans that are going to petition the Jaguars to sign Tebow. That's funny, because Denver fans did the same when they were trying to out Kyle Orton at QB. Well, that turned into a playoff berth and upset victory over the Steelers. Tebow and the Broncos were exposed against the Patriots, but I don't think they get that far without him.
Listen, ultimately the GM of the Jaguars is going to do what's best for the team. GM Dave Caldwell has already made it clear that he has no intention on signing Tebow. I can't help but agree. I think Tebow has talent, but I think it has to be the right situation. In Denver, the offense was re-wired around Tebow's talents. They had a running game and a steady defense. None of that exists in Jacksonville.
