Everyone knows that little girls like to dress up, and to hear people talk you would think that the little angels walk on clouds and vomit rainbows. Okay, so little girls are pretty cool most of the time, (even Big Foot is good for a giggle on a daily basis) but why are little boys getting the short end? They are just as adorable, just as funny and guess what; they like to dress up just as much as little girls do. So, what are the best dress up costumes for little boys? Here are choices that can work for your little prince whether he is just brand new (ooh, love that new baby smell) or is heading to the end of his little man days.
Kids costumes
No one is more in tune with his imagination than a little boy- they will grab just about anything and make it into a gun, a sword or part of his dress up costume. Imaginary play actually stimulates his growing intellect in a huge number of ways so it should be encouraged as much as possible. However, if you are concerned about some of his costume choices, relax and let it go- he will be fine. Little boys at this age do occasionally pretend to wear dresses and other things you might be freaked out by. So how do you encourage your little fellow? By using dress up costumes of a wide variety and letting him play to his heart (and brain’s content).
Start with Super hero dress up costumes- capes, utility belts and other components can be the start. At this age, especially for the little boys who are potty training, dress up costumes that include leotards might be too big of a hassle so stick with pajamas so they can dress up and still be independent. Another option is to let them wear capes and other items of their favorite heroes over their regular clothes.
Older boys might like dress up costumes in the superhero genre but may also like others like from their favorite movies. The Transformers, blockbuster movie and cartoon versions both offer some very good costumes and a lot of fun accessories to wear with them as well. They will dress up in virtually anything- and again, should be encouraged to do so.
Finally, just before they turn surly and snarling teen on you, little boys may start wearing dress up costumes that are just them exploring the potentials of their dark and soon to be hate filled little souls – for instance, they might wear rock star dress up costumes or they may go what we should call “pre-Goth” which is just like Goth only slightly less, well Goth.
