Haunted Party (2009)
by Iza Trapani
This book is so much fun! It’s a counting book, a vocabulary book, a rhythm and rhyme book, a picture book. The illustrations are moody and full of funny details.
3 gruesome goblins, gross and green
with pointy ears that aren’t too clean
Enjoy some really mean cuisine
At the haunted house of the ghost.
In the picture are chubby trolls with dirt tumbling out of their ears, shoelaces untied, a rat hanging out of one pants pocket, eating snails & grubs with toothpicks and salt, greedily grabbing eyeball appetizers from the ghost host’s bowl.
That’s the kind of story we read over and over, the kids studying the pictures as they listen, sometimes counting to see if the number in the illustration matches the number in the story.
This book is smart. It’s funny. It’s gross. A definite winner.
