It’s time for adults to trick or treat again.
As grown-ups, we are expected to stay home and give kids that aren’t ours candy.
But candy is meant to be eaten, not meant to be given to other people with store bought costumes. What’s stopping us adults from dressing up, going door to door, asking for candy, and then slipping into a mini coma for the night?
I say no more.
No more judging eyes from home owners. No more being condemned to house parties and drinking ourselves to sleep, and no more hearing, “Aren’t you a little old for Halloween?”
Yes, some adult costumes may be a little risqué, but costumes made by adults can also be the most imaginative and funny. They say you don’t reach your true creative potential until your early 20s.
I’m tired of seeing 40 Spiderman costumes and 20 Disney princesses, although the Princess Darth Vader is a nice touch. I want to see something new, something that isn’t stereotypical Halloween, something that I haven’t seen before. I want to see a costume that only an adult could think of.
Kids aren’t the only ones who enjoy a pillow case full of candy. I’d enjoy going up to a stranger’s house, ringing the doorbell in my Hunter S. Thompson costume, looking the person who answers the door in the eye and demanding candy from them because the day permits me to. As long as I’m not creepy, drunk or obscene, who could say no?
What made adults think they should stop going trick or treating in the first place? Is it because we can go to parties with our friends and be part of a big social event that Facebook would love to hear about?
I would much rather take a group of friends trick or treating.
We could have a laugh as we walked down the streets and comment on each other’s costumes, while each getting a butt-load of candy. I couldn’t think of a better time.
As an adult, I’d like to be able to go trick-or-treating. I’d like not to be judged by passing parents all because I want free candy and want to hang out with my friends. I would like to say, “Trick-or-treat!” again, and I’ll be damned if my age stops me from being myself.
