Best Buds. A Super Bowl Theme | Loyola Digital Advertising

The Super Bowl is widely known as the best time for commercial advertising, and it is the most watched American television broadcast yearly. And because of this, high-profile television commercials are aired during the game by big brand names like Doritos, Pepsi, General Motors, and of course the Super Bowl wouldn’t be The Super Bowl without Budweiser. Due to the high number of viewers, airing a commercial during this time is the perfect opportunity for advertisers to gain attention for their products. For Budweiser, this is a perfect time and opportunity to really connect with their audience. Since 1986 Budweiser has kept it a Super Bowl tradition to feature the Budweiser Clydesdales. The Clydesdales are a group of horses used for Anheuser-Busch commercials, and consist of seven teams of horses that are housed either at the company’s headquarters in St. Louis Missouri, or at Merrimack, New Hampshire. So, why horses? What do horses have to do with beer? In 1933, August A. Busch, Jr. and Adolphus Busch III got their father, August A. Busch, Sr., a six-horse Clydesdale hitch that was pulling a red, white, and gold beer wagon to celebrate the repeal of Prohibition. At the 2013 Super Bowl, Budweiser’s Clydesdales commercial titled “Brotherhood” pulled on the heartstrings for everyone watching. The commercial shows a man/trainer, tending to his baby foal which was only a week old when the ad was shot; and it continues to show the touching bond between the man and the now full-grown Clydesdale, which gets picked to go on the Budweiser Clydesdales tour around the country. The ad fast-forwards to “three years later,” and shows a heartwarming reunion between the man and the horse he raised when he goes to see the horse on tour in Chicago. So what does Budweiser have in store for its viewers this year? How will they top last years commercial, which was a big hit, and received such great reviews? They added a puppy. This years Super Bowl 2014 commercial is titled “Puppy Love” and it features the iconic Clydesdale horse and his new best bud, a tiny golden retriever pup. The commercial has become a viral sensation, and it’s not even the Super Bowl yet. According to US Magazine Budweiser released its adorable new commercial on Wednesday, Jan. 29, and it has become a viral sensation, showing up all over Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. The commercial shows the special bond between a Budweiser Clydesdale and a cute puppy, which is set to Passenger’s song “Let Her Go;” the commercial has already been viewed 15.8 million times on YouTube. The whole idea behind the commercial is the theme of “best buds,” which translates to Budweiser as consumers “best bud” when it comes to beer options, and the Super Bowl for that matter. If you haven’t seen the commercial yet, I suggest you go to YouTube and watch it, and make sure you have a box of tissues with you.
