I was standing in the doorway, scared to step over the threshold,
Scared to let go, afraid to go out into the cold,
Scared there would be no one out there for me,
Scared I would be so utterly lonely.
But when I finally got myself to step inside,
You were waiting there on the other side,
And you walked into my life, marched right in,
You made it so much more fun living.
And now as I walk my different ways,
I keep on searching for your face.
Oh Friend! You were the hand,
I held on to when I could not stand.
Oh Friend! You caught me when I lied,
I smiled, You could tell that I had cried.
Oh Friend! You could read my stance,
You had me figured for my every nuance.
And I cherish this, I am holding on to it,
Afraid to let it go, even a little bit,
I want you to know how special you are,
You are like my own solid northern star,
I depend on you to get me through,
Any situation I might walk into,
And I will be there for you always,
I f you need my help, waiting in this same place,
I would be for you what you were to me,
You can trust me as I trusted thee.
It is after all in friendship where,
We learn to give and take and share,
It is so pure and serene, nothing like anything we knew,
We personify it, it is me and you!
