The giraffe family likes to take family pictures. They enjoy preserving the memory of how tall they are. However there was one problem. Geri, a very, VERY short giraffe was too short to be in the picture. He said he could stay out of the photo…but that was not an option. Soon all the tall giraffes were trying to come up with ways that Geri could be tall enough to be in the picture. Geri fell off the stilts, rolled off a stack of turtles, and was upside-down when hanging from the tree. Geri just didn’t think he could actually be in the photograph. But then a caterpillar had an idea. And that made it so everyone could be happy with the new family portrait. I find this book incredibly funny. Mostly because I come from a family with loads of photographers and I know how hard it can be to get everyone just right so a family picture can look amazing. Seriously, there is a lot that has to happen to make everyone look just right at the same time and then snap the photo at that particular instance. I love how the giraffe family still wanted Geri in the photo. It was nice to see that even though they didn’t know quite what to do they could work together (and then listen to a caterpillar) to figure out a solution. This is a good story about how even the littlest person in the family matters.

What to do after reading this book:

Take a family photo.

Let the littlest one take some pictures.

Let the little ones decide where everyone will stand/sit for the family photo.

Go to the zoo and visit the giraffes.

Go to a park and see if you can make friends with a caterpillar.

Look at family photo albums.
