An invisible alien presence invades rural Texas, revoltingly killing its victims, reanimating their corpses, and sending them on a bloodthirsty rampage. Scientists at a local research facility set out to study the phenomenon while top military brass are hell-bent on nuking the bloodsuckers. A young photographer and his girlfriend find themselves ensnared in the bloody mayhem. Taking a comic swipe at drive-in exploitation films, this Horror Sci-Fi farce is so true to the genre that it joins the ranks of the movies it pokes fun at.
I feel we need to go into detail here a bit about how a film that is probably considered by most to be “bad” can still be good. Bloodsuckers from Outer Space isn’t going to win any awards for horror film of the year 1984, but it is still an entertaining and different view on a few concepts that have since been ran into the ground. Back when zombies were till fresh, this film combined it with aliens and the end result is a funny film that can still get bloody when it needs to and can be an overall fun watch. The movie is just all-around insane and isn’t afraid to take a sharp left turn or toss out racial slurs when it feels like it. It also doesn’t mind to break that fourth wall when it sees fit. Maybe the film isn’t all that great, but the movie also seems to be in on the joke, which helps.
We go in between our story here with a new couple caught out in the middle of what seems like nowhere in this alien/zombie outbreak and a group of scientist that seems to be destined to mess things up or have things messed up by a military group that also comes into play. There’s kung-fu, gore, and bomb action that comes into play before the end credits roll and the randomness of the whole thing should keep you watching regardless of how weird it gets. When all is said and done on Bloodsuckers from Outer Space, you might not think the film is good by traditional standards, but you should still enjoy what you get out of it anyway.
