In September 2010, Elvira’s Movie Macabre returned to television syndication in the U.S., this time with public-domain films. Twenty-six episodes were produced, six were left unaired but found a home on both DVD and iTunes. Here in this set, we have 26 horrifying films on 13 DVD’s! Some just horrifyingly BAD. …Over 38 1/2 hours of frightful fun. Elvira, the Mistress of the Dark, hosts this frightfully funny collection of B-Movie horror classics with her own unique style, all delivered in this collectible tin coffin.

Elvira’s Movie Macabre, follows the 80s version of the show and basically has the same format. Elvira in the role she made famous from the 80s is hosting horror movies in each episode and and before, after, and in between we see here popping in for a good joke or two. And, let us be honest here, some of these movies are good, but some wouldn’t be that watchable if it wasn’t for Elvira (Cassandra Peterson). This set has each episode from the show’s revival, but the movies are edited here as they were on the show’s airing. Some other releases that have been out over the years have unedited versions of the movies, but that isn’t the case here. Elvira is still here in all her glory and that is what counts. I believe just the mood she brings to the table makes it a fun watch regardless of what th content is. There are no extras on the discs, but it IS 13 discs and 26 movies. No need to complain with that much content.

I might have had some of these movies before, but I didn’t own any of the Elvira double feature discs until this. If you want to just snatch up all her discs on one big swoop this is certainly the best way to do that. As for the movies you get here, it has some pretty cool stuff. Night of the Living Dead kicks it off and while some movies are hit and miss on their own, with her as the hosts they are ALL extremely fun. With the Halloween season coming up this set would make for a very cool and spooky night of fun if you had this set to help celebrate. Also, I am a big fan of the tin coffin case this comes in. It is just the right size for basic display or to even sit it up for other display. Overall, it is a great set and if you love Elvira it is a must own. Here are the movies you get..

  • The Giant Gila Monster
