A Day in the Life of a Mom and a Wife: Getting to know the REAL me
May 17th 2012, 19:14

I figured now was a good time to spill my guts.

I would like to maybe clear up any preconceived notions that anyone might have about me or my family.

I just want to get this out of the way.

I know I have a lot of tattoos.

I know this interests people.

I know people want to talk about it all the time, everywhere I go.

I'm used to it.

I'm not an attention seeker.

I repeat. I am not an attention seeker. I didn't get my tattoos to stand out. While I know they do make me stand out, that's not the reason behind them.

I'm not trying to be different.

I just happen to be married to a tattooer.

That's it!

I think the average person has a different picture in their head when they think of the family of a tattoo artist.

You know what I'm talking about.

There is a big tattoo "culture" if you will. For some people, it's a lifestyle. You see it in every aspect of their lives.

  For example, picture this:

Dad's a tattooer. He's into death metal and usually is a smoker. His friends are all tattoo guys and they all look scary and intimidating. The mom is also heavily tattooed. She also loves death metal and loud music. All of her friends are heavily tattooed women and they do stuff like pin up modeling together and go to all of the tattoo conventions with their husbands. Their house is decorated with all kinds of tattoo flash and "gothic" decor. It's definitely not your average home...oh and of course they are Athiests too, so there's pentagrams everywhere! And the kids are all into rock n' roll stuff...you know...they have mohawks that mom colored blue and they wear little band tshirts and mommy always makes sure to style them up all cool like. They get to go to shows with their parents. The mom is a cool mom. She believes in giving her kids more freedom and tries to be their friend. She's not your average mom! She's a tattooed mom! She's a rocker. She's different. It's her lifestyle.

....

Did you picture that?

I'm sorry, but that is SO not me.

If that's you're thing, cool. But it's not me.

I do not eat breath live all things tattooed.

I don't live that that "rock n' roll, alternative, cool tattoo lifestyle."

Not only that...I feel like I'm the opposite of what people expect me to be.

I completely reject your typical tattooed stereotypes.

I dress like a normal woman my age. At least I think I do.

I shop at Target & Forever 21, and I buy my shoes at Payless.

I'm not into "goth" stuff. I don't buy all of my clothes at Hot Topic or color my hair with Manic Panic.

I don't wear band tees every day...I do own a few but I hardly ever wear them because they never fit well!

I like girly stuff.

I love hair & makeup and all things beauty related.

My kids dress however they want. They pick their clothes and I buy them what they think is cool or looks good to them.

My daughter loves princesses and my son is super into super heroes and video games.

I don't make them listen to metal. Sure, my husband does love metal, but the rest of us don't!

My daughter loves Taylor Swift and I sing along with her in the car.

One of my favorite things to do with her is to blast some Britney Spears or Lady Gaga & we clean the house together.

Most of my friends are not heavily tattooed women. Some are, but most of my super close friends are not.

My husbands friends are all tattooed. Most of them are fellow tattooers or just have been lucky enough to get tattooed a lot by their really awesome tattoo guy friend :)

Bottom line:

I'm just a simple girl...a wife and a mom and I love my kids.

I try to be the best stay-at-home-mommy-supermom-susie-homemaker I can be.

I want to give my kids a "normal" upbringing like I had.

I just want to live my life and have fun. I want to geek out and read a lot of nerdy books and blog and sew my little heart out. I want to bake cookies with my kids and have dinner on the table when my husband gets home. I pride myself in having a clean house and well behaved children who know God and have good moral values.

My life consists of laundry, play dates at the park, grocery shopping, boo boo kissing and bedtime snuggles just like every other mom.

If you're new to my blog, welcome! If you aren't, I'm glad you've stuck around to get to know me. I bet we have more in common than you think! Thank you for letting me be me and for NOT judging me based on how I look. I know it's not always easy, but I hope I've cleared up a couple of things that might have been on your mind.

Have a wonderful day...I'm going to curl up with a good book right now!

I leave you with a few pictures of my normal family doing normal stuff :)

Monkey-ing around at the zoo with Daddy.

Family picture! At the water front in Seattle.

Eating some ice cream with Daddy.

All of us at Lily's birthday party.

Lily got to pick his Halloween costume that year! What  good sport he was. We had SO much fun that Halloween.

And the year where we dressed up as cats because the kids thought it was funny.

And lastly...my absolute favorite family picture. It's about 2 years old, but I love it. Love my family!
