Halloween is the time to spook your friends with ghoulish costumes and scary decor. It is also the time to share scary ghost stories, so here we'll will be giving you the 10 most famous ghosts.

Resurrection Mary is known by many to be the original hitchhiker story. It is told that a young blond woman with blue eyes walks by Archer Avenue, Justice, Illinois and when you give her a lift she is very quiet and she disappears if you pass the gates of the Resurrection Cemetry.

The Flying Dutchmen is an old ship that sailed to the coast of South-Africa in 1641. Captain Hendrik van der Decken swore that he would sail the ship around the Cape of Good Hope, but never succeeded. The Flying Dutchmen has thereafter been seen around the coast of South-Africa frequently appearing to be a phantom ship, seen as a bright light by other boats.

This Philippine ghost is rumoured to be standing on Balete Drive, Quezon City, Philippines. People that have seen this ghost says she has long black hair with a face covered in blood or no face at all and is wearing white. It is legend that you should not drive on Balete Drive alone at night for if your backseat is empty she will hitch a ride with you.
The Bell Witch

In 1817 John William Bell, Sr. shot at a strange animal in the cornfield on his farm, but before he could shoot the animal it disappeared. Soon after this incident a series of gnawing and beating noises started outside and later on inside of the Bell family's home. Betsy Bell was acclaimed to have been assaulted in the house.

The Lady in white wonders the grounds at Bachelor's Grove, Chicago with a baby in her arms at nights when the moon is full. This is a small abandoned cemetery and acclaimed to be one of the scariest places in America.
The ghost of Anne Boleyn

Mother of Queen Elizabeth I, Anne Boleyn, was married to Henry VIII. Only reined as queen for 3 years, when she was accused of which craft, incest and adultery. She was executed with a sword; her ghost has been spotted at different locations such as Tower of London, Salle Church, Hever Castle and Marwell Hall.
The Brown Lady
The brown lady
The Brown Lady travels through the Raynham Hall in Norfolk, England. She is thought to be the ghost of late Dorothy Townshend who lived in Raynham Hall with her husband Charles Townshend. Legend has it that when Charles found out that Dorothy was the mistress of Lord Wharton, he imprisoned her in the Hall. She later died from his abuse.
Casper
Better known as Casper the friendly ghost, Casper is a ghost with a white outline and always smile. Casper wants to make friends with people, while other ghosts want to scare people. Casper the friendly ghost was made a film later on.
Bloody Mary
Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary…. Legend has it that if her name is said three times in a row when you put off the lights and look into a mirror the ghost of Bloody Mary will appear in front of you. This has become a scary tale in schools, where children will do this in the school's bathrooms.
