Hello, I am a stylist. You can buy wig spray from the beauty supply store and a wig brush. A wig brush i just a wooden paddle brush that looks sort of like an animal brush. Most human air products will not work on synthetic hair because it has no cuticle, but oil sheens and mists will soften and help to detangle your wig. If you wash it, cold water only. I've been watching clips from Merrie Monarch Festivals on youtube (absolutely amazing performances!!). I noticed that almost all of the female dancers dancing kahiko have thick, long, dark hair that falls down to their behinds.
Not just a few individuals, but entire groups of women with this big, super long hair that is exactly the same length! Can it possibly be all natural? Or do some of the women wear wigs as part of their costumes when performing at festivals like Merrie Monarch?

Nope. My halau have been competing in Merrie Monarch since the beginning, and all our hair is natural. Hula dancers take pride in everything they do, that includes growing out our hair. Some halau only let you get your hair cut by your kumu (hula teacher), or only with permission.

Even if you aren't into sci-fi, video games, role-play, anime or comic books, or other geeky things like that, you may enjoy knowing that the conventions for those things always include wearing costumes. In-fact more people go to those conventions to wear costumes, than to actually buy the stuff.
You may also enjoy knowing that those places often include pretty sexy costumes. If you go to comic-con, you'll see that the women, and even some of the men's costumes are pretty risqué. It really does look like Halloween there.
You can also dress-up in costumes at the Rocky Horror Picture Show. True, most of the costumes are related to the film, but not all. In-fact, one year, I saw both a Batman and a Catwoman and they didn't come to the show together. A lot of people just use that show, as an excuse to wear costumes, throw stuff, yell stuff, dance and have fun after hours. Its a lot of fun.
You can also attend costume parties. Some fund-raisers include a costume party. People throw costume parties through-out the year. In-fact, if you go to your local costume shop, and ask them about events, you may be surprised the variety of costumed events available in your area.
Of course, you could try things like nightclubs or even drag clubs. Club kids are very common in any kind of club, but especially popular in drag clubs.

Cosworx is great if you want an unstyled wig. They ship pretty fast and have decent deals.
Ebay stores are your absolute best bet if you want a prestyled one. Just search the character's name and wig and you typically will get hits for tons of stores. Just make sure you email the seller first to make sure that the wig does in fact come how it appears in the picture.
The set back to ebay is it takes a bit longer to ship.
As for the French maid cosplay, I would also reccommend a ebay store. If you really want a good one though, you could always find a cosplay commissioner to make a costum one for you. The fit will be awesome but it will be quite a bit more expensive.
