November Update! Looking Through A German Kaleidoscope

As you may have noticed, I’ve gotten a bit behind on blogging.

This has happened because

  1. I’ve been busy

  2. I like to sleep… a lot.

  3. I’m a lazy girl!

But I think it’s important that I get up to date now, so everything is more organized for the upcoming year (how did that happen?)

HalloweenLet’s see…

I finished up the month of October by going to a Halloween party with some classmates.

I didn’t really have a costume, so I just threw something together.

It’s funny because in Germany, Halloween isn’t really a thing (everything is American~), but the host, Jan, really loves Halloween.

We just sat around talking and we went for a walk through the forest, scared some cows (boys are so mean!), and talked about how liberal gun laws are in the gud ol’ USA. They were simply appalled.

Important points in November

  • Hair

  • Election

  • Thanksgiving

  • Host family placement (but that will be talked about in a post all by itself!)

Hair

Three words: Work in progress.

Essentially, I started working harder on my hair.

Maintaining natural hair that is both healthy AND cute is just exhausting, to say the least.

I had my hair straightened for my senior prom by people who did not know what the hell they were doing, and totally damaged it.

What's that in my hand? This was very upsetting because I had just recently gotten a haircut to get rid of my damaged hair, so it’s almost like starting all over again.

I finally sucked it up and trimmed my hair where it was really bad, but of course, the damage isn’t even.

Now, I am left with a lot of dead, straight pieces, with one side of my head longer than the other.

PERFECT!
But seeing as my hair shrinks a lot, it’s not that obvious. (A haircut will be one of the first things on my list for when I go back home.)

Hopefully, with all of the effort I’m putting into it (coconut oil, moisturizing with water, and protective styling), it will grow longer and healthier.

Election

First: HAHAHAHA!White tears~ (So many people were butthurt.)

I stayed up all night watching the votes come in with Nicole.

We couldn’t bear going to sleep without knowing how it turned out.

I took a short nap, and then I woke up to the (unconfirmed) results that Barack Obama had won the election.

GOTT SEI DANK (Thank God!)

Fun fact: Germans love Obama.

A lot of kids and teachers asked me about it, and some of them were just as excited as anyone would be (okay, maybe not Republicans, but still.)

I was entirely pleased and as I didn’t have any school the next day (my classes were cancelled, that happens often), I fell asleep around 7 am.

THAT’S DEDICATION (and insomnia!)

Thanksgiving

I actually don’t have much to say here. However, I made my first ever Thanksgiving turkey!

I really patted myself on the back for this, but I have to remind myself: It was only about 6 pounds!

BUT STILL.

I also made stuffing.

I wanted to have vegetables, but they didn’t have corn on the cob at the store?!

It was bizarre.

Also, our nanny/maid made pumpkin pie from an old exchange student recipe, and it was pretty much awesome.

I will post more pictures from that when I find my camera, it’s kind of MIA.

Host Family Placement

On November 30th, not only did I get my Christmas package (Thanks Mom!), but I got a very important email!

A family that had been very interested in me decided to officially host me!

Exciting times ahead.
