I liked LA Noire myself, but I do agree with your statement that the article's premise is ridiculous. There are specific and unique contexts in which watching can be enjoyable, but as a categorical statement that Heavy Rain or whatever is fun to watch just for the sake of watching that game, it's a silly statement. For example, it might be fun to watch a grudge match of college friends playing Madden or whatever, as a specific context where watching Madden might be fun. But watching two generic people playing Madden is not fun. In other words, it's the surrounding drama that makes it fun, and in that respect, you could insert almost any game into the mix, and you could get into it for a while. As another example, related to the article, the watch factor of Just Dance, I think is inversely proportional to the dancing skills of the players. It's watching people that can't do the moves that makes it somewhat entertaining. You get some folks who can dance, and there's no alcohol involved, it's going to get boring quick.
